Bible stories your child hears, colors and remembers

Crayon Bible is a 6 to 8 minute Bible lesson for kids ages 3 to 9. Your child hears a true story from the Bible, colors it, sings the memory verse and prays with Pip the lamb.

One lesson, seven little steps

Every lesson follows the same path, so your child always knows what comes next. There is one big Next button, and every step speaks out loud. The pictures below are from the app.

  1. Warm-up

    30 seconds

Pip asks one question about the last lesson. Remembering the last story helps it stick.

Warm-up screen. Pip asks: Last time, Noah was safe in the ark. Who came out? Three picture answers to tap.
    God's Rainbow Promise, Explorers
  2. Hear the story

    About 2 minutes

Four to six picture panels, read aloud by a warm storyteller. Two or three times, your child taps to help, like picking up five smooth stones for David.

Story screen for God's Rainbow Promise. The ark rests on a mountain. Text: The ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Genesis 8:3 to 4, 13 to 16.
God's Rainbow Promise, with its chapter and verse
  3. Color the moment

    As long as they like

The key scene of the story becomes a coloring page. When it's done, it goes into your child's own Story Book.

Coloring screen: a line drawing of Noah's ark, the animals and a rainbow, with a row of crayons to pick from.

  4. Questions and the Big Idea

    About 1 minute

Tap the right picture. A wrong tap gets a gentle hint and another try. Then one Big Idea your child can say back, like "God keeps His promises."

Question screen for The Lost Sheep. Pip asks: How many sheep got lost? Tap the number! Answers: one, two, ten. The Big Idea: Every one matters to God.

  5. Sing the memory verse

    About 1 minute

The verse becomes a short sing-along. Little Lambs echo the key words. Explorers put the words in order. Earlier verses come back on later days until they stick.

Memory verse screen. Sing the verse along with Pip: came to seek and to save the lost, Luke 19:10.
    The Lost Sheep, Little Lambs
  6. Live it and pray with Pip

    About 1 minute

One small thing to do this week, then a short prayer with Pip. Your child can add a prayer to the Prayer Jar.

Live it screen: This week, when you make a promise, keep it. God keeps His promises! Below, Pip prays: Dear God, thank You for the rainbow.

  7. Celebrate

    15 seconds

Stars, the next stone on the map lights up, and the family lamp stays lit for the day.

Celebrate screen: Pip dances next to a small clay oil lamp, and the Lost Sheep is added to the Story Thread.

Made for readers and pre-readers

A grown-up picks a mode for each child. Brothers and sisters can each have their own, on the same device.

Little Lambs

About ages 3 to 5

  • Everything is read aloud. No reading needed.
  • Questions are answered by tapping pictures.
  • Kids learn the key words of each verse, quoted exactly.
  • Hard parts of stories are told very gently.

Explorers

About ages 6 to 9

  • Read along as the words are spoken.
  • Put the memory verse words in order.
  • Learn the whole verse, not just the key words.
  • Hear a little more of each story.

Every memory verse is a song

Kids learn the verse by singing it. These are three of the verse songs from the app. Press play to listen. Nothing plays on its own.

God's Rainbow Promise

Genesis 9:13

"I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth."

Genesis 9:13, BSB
All the words of the song

I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. I have set My rainbow in the clouds, I have set My rainbow in the clouds, Genesis nine thirteen. I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. Genesis nine thirteen.

David and Goliath

1 Samuel 17:47

"And all those assembled here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and He will give all of you into our hands."

1 Samuel 17:47, BSB
All the words of the song

And all those assembled here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and He will give all of you into our hands. The battle is the Lord's, The battle is the Lord's, First Samuel seventeen forty seven. And all those assembled here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and He will give all of you into our hands. First Samuel seventeen forty seven.

The Lost Sheep

Luke 19:10

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

Luke 19:10, BSB
All the words of the song

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Came to seek and to save the lost, Came to seek and to save the lost, Luke nineteen ten. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Luke nineteen ten.

True to the Bible, line by line

The stories are told in short, simple sentences. Nothing is made up. Every line points back to the verses it comes from.

A crayon picture of Goliath in bronze armor, holding a spear, calling out across the valley.

From the David and Goliath lesson

  • A Philistine champion came out. His name was Goliath. He was very, very tall.1 Samuel 17:4
  • King Saul and all his soldiers were very afraid.1 Samuel 17:11
  • Saul put his own armor on David. But David could not walk in it. So David took it off.1 Samuel 17:38–39
Each line of the story script carries its chapter and verse, and is checked against that passage.
  • One Bible, word for word

Memory verses are quoted word for word from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), a modern English translation in the public domain.

  • Chapter and verse on every lesson

So you can open your own Bible and read the story together.

  • Checked before it ships

Every line of every lesson is checked against the BSB passage it cites, and a person approves each lesson before it is released.

  • Only what Scripture says

1 Samuel 17 calls Goliath a champion, so the lesson does too, not a "giant." The book of Jonah says a great fish, so the app never says a whale.

  • Careful with God and Jesus

God is never drawn as a man. He is shown as light, or by what His words do, like the rainbow. Jesus says only His own words, as written in the BSB.

A crayon picture of David standing calmly with his sling while Goliath lies facedown on the ground. Nothing frightening is shown.
Gentle with hard stories: Goliath falls facedown, and nothing scary is shown.

More than a lesson

Small, warm habits for your family, built around the Bible.

  • The family lamp

A clay oil lamp stays lit with one lesson a day. One rest day a week never dims it.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet." Psalm 119:105
  • The Prayer Jar

Kids keep the things they pray for in a jar, with pictures for family, friends, thank you, sorry and help.

  • When I feel…

Scared, sad, angry, lonely and more. Each feeling opens a short Bible story, a verse and a prayer for that feeling.

  • The Story Book

Every page your child colors is saved in order. Over time it becomes their own illustrated Bible story book.

  • Bible Story of the Day

A narrated story and its coloring page, free every day.

  • A grown-ups area

Settings, voices, the microphone and purchases sit behind a parent gate, away from little fingers.

A question for the car or the dinner table

After each lesson, you get one simple question to ask your child. From the rainbow lesson:
